Nature of Ultram

April 25th, 2010

Ultram acted as pain killer, it covers from moderate level of pain until severe chronic. Ultram mechanism is similar to morphine, in which it blocks the feeling sensation of pain throughout the body. It can be misused just like any other drugs or narcotic used in the treatment of pain.

Mostly Ultram is prescribed to adults and the dosage does differ based on the level of pain, it may increase if the pain does not decrease.  The first level of pain is normally treated with immediate release tablet for the duration of 4 to 6 hours. To improve tolerance patients, the dosage starts at 25/mg once a day and may increase every 3 days  until it reaches 200 mg per day, or 50 mg in four times intake.

This phase is called the phase – in period. If the severity of the pain is high, the doses should be taken in 50 to 100 miligrams every 4 to 6 hours. The early phase can be skipped if rapid pain relief is required, but with the consequences of side effects.  Intake of Ultram only allowed until its maximum dosage of 400 milligram a day, but will be reduce to only 300 milligram if the patients are over the age of 75. However there are no known studies that can establish the safety and effectiveness of Ultram for children below 16 years of age.

Ultram characteristic also make it addicted, it forms a habit for the patients if the intake or dosage are not monitored or do not follow what has been prescribed by the physician. Being a pain killer drugs or narcotic, it causes negative effects if taken by doubling up the dosage or by consuming it with other narcotic based pain killers or drugs.
